Safari West is home to over seven hundred individual animals. Our mammal, bird, and reptile collection is composed of over one hundred different species representing the incredible biological diversity of Africa and other areas of the world.
Our mammal species are native to Africa, including the island of Madagascar, and represent omnivores, herbivores, and carnivores. The birds species of Safari West are native to many continents and countries such as Africa, South America, Papua New Guinea, and even the United States.

Some of the animals that live at Safari West are considered to be Threatened species. Additionally, we have animals that are considered to be Near Threatened which means that they are in danger of the possibility of being placed in the category of Threatened in the future. As a wildlife preserve, Safari West works in partnership with our global community to help conserve these animals for our planet. As a friend of Safari West, there are many ways that you can get involved in this effort.
Criteria used to evaluate the conservation threat level to these animals is from both the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums), and the IUCN World Conservation Union Red List.
